Is a veneer the right fix?

  • Front teeth that stay dark or gray however often you whiten them.
  • A chipped or worn edge that bonding has not held onto.
  • A gap between the front teeth you would rather close than straighten.
  • Teeth that are short, uneven or slightly rotated and show in every photo.
  • Old bonding or veneers that have stained, chipped or lifted at the edge.

A veneer is one answer, and sometimes whitening, bonding or a short aligner course is the better one. The scan and the trial smile show which before any enamel is touched.

Porcelain veneers for Westminster patients are designed and bonded at Safari Dentistry and Implants, about 3 miles south on Goldenwest St in Huntington Beach. Each case is planned on an intraoral scan, previewed as a trial smile over your own teeth, and priced per tooth in writing before any enamel is touched.

What are porcelain veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin ceramic shell, about half a millimeter thick, bonded to the front of a tooth to change its color, shape, length or spacing. At Safari Dentistry and Implants veneers for Westminster patients are designed on an intraoral scan, previewed in your own mouth as a trial smile, and bonded only after you approve the shape and shade. The periodontist in the office checks the gums first, because the edge of every veneer sits at the gum line.

  • Porcelain veneers: lab-made ceramic, two visits, resist staining, last 10 to 15 years.
  • Composite veneers: resin sculpted directly on the tooth in one visit; lower cost, easier to repair, last 4 to 8 years.
  • Minimal-prep veneers: for teeth that are small or set back, where little or no enamel needs to be removed.
  • Single veneer: one dark or chipped front tooth matched to its neighbors, the hardest match in dentistry and planned with extra shade photographs.

Why Westminster patients choose Safari for veneers

Westminster patients often arrive with a veneer price from a cosmetic office on Bolsa Ave or Beach Blvd and no explanation of what it included. Here the written fee lists the design, the trial smile, the temporaries and the follow-up, and porcelain and composite are quoted side by side. The office is ten minutes down the same street, so the three visits fit into a lunch break.

What do veneers cost for Westminster patients?

Veneers are priced per tooth, and the total depends on how many teeth show when you smile, usually four to ten. The fee is written down at the consultation and includes the design, the trial smile, the temporaries and the follow-up visit. Veneers are elective and not covered by dental insurance, so monthly payment plans are offered, and any crown or gum treatment in the same plan is billed to your PPO or HMO separately.

What to bring to your first visit from Westminster

  • Photos of a smile you like, and one of your own smile from a few years ago.
  • Any veneer quote or plan from another office, to compare tooth by tooth.
  • A note of whether you grind or clench; it decides the ceramic and whether a night guard is part of the plan.
  • Your insurance card; veneers are not covered, but a crown or gum treatment in the same plan often is.

From the moment I walked in the door, Dr Safari and team welcomed me like family. Everybody was very nice. The office is cute and clean. They addressed all my cares and concerns. I had a very nice experience I highly recommended this place. And they have coffee in the waiting room.

I've have never been to a better dentistry in all my life! Dr Safari truly cares about her patients and I can't thank her enough for the work that she does. I hadn't been to the dentist in over 10 years thinking I can take care of my teeth pretty well on my own (bad, I know!) I had an immediate dental emergency randomly, and Dr Safari was there for me. To say the least, I actually had a lot of work that needed to be done that was avoided all those years, so my emergency was a blessing in disguise. She is so attentive, kind and an expert at what she does. Honestly Dr Safari and all her staff are such positive people. From Bridgett, Ada and to all the dental assistants. Every single staff member makes you feel they're there to help and so welcoming with their smiles. I'm so grateful for what she has done for me and I value her dedication to helping people. Seriously, thank you!

Questions patients ask

How many veneers do I need?

It depends on how many teeth show when you smile. One veneer fixes a single dark or chipped tooth. Four to six covers the front teeth, and eight to ten covers a wide smile. The trial smile shows the difference before you decide.

Can veneers be whitened later?

No. Porcelain does not change color with whitening gel, so natural teeth are whitened first and the veneers are made to match the new shade. Porcelain also resists coffee, tea and wine stains far better than enamel or bonding.

Can I get veneers if my gums are receding?

Often yes, after the recession is treated. The periodontist in the office can graft the gum or stabilize it first so the veneer edge stays covered. Placing veneers on gums that are still receding is how dark edges appear a few years later.

How many visits will veneers take from Westminster?

Usually three: the consultation and scan, the preparation visit, and the bonding visit about two weeks later, plus one short follow-up. Appointments are Monday to Thursday, 10 AM to 4 PM, and the drive from Westminster is about 10 minutes.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Ten to fifteen years is typical, and many last longer with healthy gums, regular cleanings and a night guard for grinders. Composite veneers last 4 to 8 years. A veneer that chips or debonds can usually be replaced on its own without redoing the rest.
